Photo Essay: Independence Day Celebrations

Insti celebrated 75 years of Independence in grand fashion on August 15, 2022. Here is a short photo essay that aims to capture the numerous celebratory events that took place on Independence Day and the jubilation of the insti populace.

The first event of the day, the flag hoisting ceremony, took place at Manohar C Watsa stadium at 9 AM. The Director of the institute, Prof. V. Kamakoti, hoisted the tricolour following which the NCC cadets, Institute Police, and security guards graced the event with a march past. Following a brief address from the Director, students sang patriotic songs in numerous languages exhibiting the diversity of our country.

Next, the Director flagged off a cycle rally, arranged by Vande Mataram, that began at Gajendra Circle, touched the Main Gate, and returned to culminate at Himalaya lawns. Hundreds of students participated in the rally and filled the streets of Insti with cycles and joy. Deer and monkeys watched amused from the side of the roads.

Thereafter the institute witnessed a tree plantation ceremony led by the SECC at the Vindhya Mess Lawns. As per the guidelines from the Ministry of Education, Prof V Kamakoti planted two Neermaruth saplings.

The SECC also arranged “Voices of the State”, a lecture by TN Air Sqn (Tech) NCC Commanding Officer – Wing Commander Arul Andrews J. on the theme India@75. Following the lecture, the Music Contingent 2022-23 gave an exemplary performance at CLT.

Soon after the institution celebrations, Sangam arranged a marathon of cultural club activities appropriately labelled “Cultalympics”. Various clubs like the Quiz Club, Writing Club, Fashion Club, Oratory Club and Word Games Club held events simultaneously. Teams would travel from club to club and complete tasks in an effort to earn the most points.

Insti was adorned with lighting and decorations for Independence Day. The administration block and Gajendra Circle were lit with the tricolor using projectors.

The lighting decorations at Himalaya Lawns brought out a rustic charm as students gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion. Himalaya Lawns as bustling with music, games and an amazing ambience at “Freedom Night with E-Cell”. A perfect place to celebrate the rich diversity of insti, relax with friends and be inspired by the “out of the box” thinkers who built India’s strong foundation as an independent nation.
