The “First Annual Day” lecture organized by The Energy Forum, IIT Madras was a particularly enlightening event as it focused on a very relevant topic – especially considering contemporary concerns about sustainable development.

The lecture was about ‘Trends in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production and Implications to the Indian Energy Scenario‘. The distinguished chief guest for the day was Dr. Srinivas Bette. He is the president and CEO of Reliance International E and P Houston, USA. An alumnus of IIT M in Chemical Engineering and a PhD scholar from University of Houston, Dr. Srinivas is a member of the Exxon-Mobil Merger Transition Team and the founder and CEO of M Cube investments.

Dr. Srinivas was a very engaging speaker who instantly connected with the audience. The highlight of the evening was when contrary to the general trend, he proved that the oil and gas and supply are not going to run out in a few years. He also spoke about the Godavari Basin project and its intricacies. With an abundance of such facts, his lecture captivated the audience and left everyone in awe of his vast knowledge in the field – hiring a drilling ship for a day is one of the ways in which you can spend a million dollars.

The lecture was presided by Prof. M S Ananth , Director , who also gave a brief talk on the topic to conclude the event. All in all, the entire event was a grand success with a very good turnout of professors and students despite the minimal publicity that was given to the event.
