Akira Kurosawa’s ‘Seven Samurai’ is a film from a different age, a classic which many have heard of but few have seen.

There has been a great deal of dissatisfaction, debate and discussion on the decision passed by the senate in the beginning of this semester to strictly enforce 12 months as the minimum mandatory duration of Dual Degree Project (DDP) for all Dual Degree students, thereby preventing them from doing a summer internship.

Dr. Bala Bharadvaj (IITM/AE/1969) is currently the Managing Director of Boeing Research & Technology-India based in Bangalore. He has been with The Boeing Company since 1987 and has held key leadership positions in major NASA-Industry initiatives (such as the F-16XL-2 Supersonic Laminar Flow Program and the High Speed Research Program) and led the development of long-range technology plans for Boeing Defense, Space & Security Systems.

I hadn’t quite anticipated what volunteering at a Ghanaian orphanage for a month would bring. Sure, I thought I would feel the obligatory happiness associated with doing my bit for the (global) community. And I was definitely a bit frightened about dealing with the kids – what if they didn’t like me? What if I didn’t know how to handle them? What if I had to change diapers?
