Humans of Insti- Hear It From Your Sister

“I feel that students in the institute do not take good care of their health. They tend to skip meals, don’t sleep on time and some don’t even take care of personal hygiene. Many are untidy and don’t take bath everyday while some don’t even bother to brush their teeth daily. Girls in the institute are very lucky because often when they fall sick, five-to-six guys are present to help her and get her food!”

Scrubs: Our Insti Hospital

“In the survey, there were a few complaints that the doctors really don’t seem to check the patient well enough before prescribing medicines. There also seems to be the issue regarding the availability of specialist doctors. Some students have questioned the ability of the hospital regarding the diagnosis of serious diseases, such as Dengue or Typhoid.” Read more about the Institute Hospital, and T5E’s survey on it, in this comprehensive report by Bhargavi and Rakesh.

Institute Swimming Pool Reopens

On Sunday, 26th January, the institute swimming pool was thrown open after extensive renovations that lasted over two and a half years. The swimming facility, with its impressive set of diving boards and beginners’ pool that adjoins the larger pool, has always been among IITM’s finest sports facilities, and the renovated pool boasts of a new addition – a ramp leading into the beginners’ pool, designed to make the swimming pool accessible to differently abled people.

Kalaikoodam: Insti Adds Art to its Palette

The weekend of 26th and 27th October saw a brand new entry to the wide-ranging list of events to which IITM plays host: an art festival-of-sorts. Kalaikoodam, a Fine Arts Club initiative, is probably the first of its kind to be held in the Institute. Events comprised an interactive graffiti project by visual artist and photographer Vimal Chandran, a junk-art workshop by artist and sculptor Jacob Jebaraj, and a lecture on ‘Everything could be art, everyone could be an artist’ by artist Bose Krishnamachari. An exhibition displaying the works of artists in IITM was also conducted on both days.
