A Ballad: SLC Meeting 03, 23/8/2024

Cue a Western, dusty roads, Friday, August 23rd, the streets leading to IC&SR did flow,

Who would come but a flurry of Legislators – Department, Research, Hostel, you name it

Semi-consensually present Public Policy Heads, a backbencher EP DL to the front did go,

So much to be discussed – Saathi Immersion, placements, surely nothing would derail it…

It started off smoothly enough – to discuss the Immersions, the General Secretary took the floor

A flurry of events he announced – an Art Attack, open mics and Zumba, a twice done campus walk

Mental health, name of the game, director, counsellor, warrier, on stigma did they close the door

Cross sphere collaborations, a CFI tour, Sportify, cultural contingent shows, many a happy freshie talk

As the MMCC stood up, seemed innocent enough, a mess menu change did they announce

Five different kinds of upma introduced, pooris erased, but on something else did SLC pounce

Down came the hammers! The banana bajji deniers!

How could they get away, erasing this from our palates and from our fate

As heated arguments poured on and on, war, cacophony, a 40 minute long debate

But MMCC defended itself – the lack of feedback form filling, to GSB did they make the plea

And eventually people saw their fate, sat back down, as they accepted what was to be

But next they would talk about the demise of Coolbiz, of HFC was it a mainstay

But apparently they had found unsanitary conditions, as fans looked at the results in dismay

The list of replacement options too expensive, a 17 rupee LMC unlikely, yours truly made a stand

What of the gentrification he (I) asked, fruitbae not as cheap, money in pocket wouldn’t land

But the CFMGS core cackled about the monopoly of Coolbiz, that only the HFC one would be a no

Usha longer cycle ride it would be, but alas what could a man do, begrudgingly let it go

Next was the CFMC (gosh these abbreviations all sound the same)

Buses, labour shortage, so 15 min intervals wouldn’t be the name

But E-Karts would be there from 7:30 to 4:30, the CFMC core made the claim

Now came along the Academics Affairs Secretary, results from Intern Season did he preach

Day 1.1 of interns had more offers, but coding culture and student quality lesser did the companies say

Announced ideas for a centralised testing with a third person agency, showed plans for the outreach

But one wasn’t going to evade the elephant in the room – the fixed credits seen on placement day

The reasoning simple – a high concentration of same students, multiple shortlists hogging

Had some data to prove, an average lesser offer count, not adequate for the NIRF-1 mogging

Questions were, of course asked – would refunds be given on losing being on a shortlist?

That would be a question of consideration, the AAS said, an evident bias would not to be missed

Also why was day 1.1 or day 1.2 clubbed together, would the companies be there equalled

This to was some game theory, they said, the chances of poaching by other IITs to be lulled

As the session broke for a 10 PM tea break, one could appreciate the camaraderie in the crowd

People from different walks of insti life, socialising, an interesting scene was seen out loud

But as the session resumed, quick things were passed through

Public Policy club – structure change – Heritage Club too

And then came the CulSec for an announcement on the Saarang social campaign

A broader change, to help the differently abled, to make them included would be the main

A standing committee, the Speaker did pass, with the goal of the target community taking the lead

Buses, buildings to be made more accessible, from hindrance they should be freed

And that was it, people walked out content, the curtains did close

Thanks for sticking around through all this rhyming prose
